Isaac Frank Barton married Georgia McBride on July 22, 1875 at Many, Sabine Parish, LA. Elizabeth and Nancy were born here. They had moved over to Nacadoches Co, TX by 1880. The census for that year list Green, Rhoda, Isaac, Elizabeth, Tom, William, Eli and Curt living near Melrose, TX. Soon after this Green and Rhoda moved between Leagueville and Black Jack, near Jermiah and his family. When Georgia gave birth to Nova L., she and baby both died. They are buried in the Melrose Cemetary. Frank and the two children and Bill came to their parents. I figure Rhoda died about 1881 or 1882. She is buried in the Leagueville cemetary. Frank met Sylvany Elizabeth Laymance Panther and October 28, 1883, they were married at her home by Jesse J. Johns. Betty's family was a good friend, Dr. R.E. Whitehead were present. Lizzie was 7, Tom was 3. Frank had a mule named "Neigh". One time he was in need of money and he borrowed $50.00 from an Athens bank. He used Neigh for collateral. He told folks, he rode Neigh up to the bank, he brayed and the banker let him have the money. Frank had several bee hives. Betty loved honey and the Martins (bee birds) were bad to eat the bees. Frank had an old muzzle loaded he had to mold bullets for, and he used this to shoot the birds. When the Woodmen of the World started a lodge at Leagueville, he made the wooden rollers used in the installation. He was a member of Lodge No. 1271, his number 76231. Frank was Independent (Mission) Baptist and Betty was Primitive. Frank's membership was at Leagueville and Betty's at Mt. Olive. The church Sunday for Mt. Olive was second Sunday and Saturday preceding. Leagueville was fourth Sunday and Saturday preceding. They attended both churches. Frank joined Betty's church in August 1919. His reason for the change was every church day Leagueville wanted money, so he joined Mt. Olive---said it was a bad move, they nearly two-bitted him to death. |
