John B. Chrestman arrived in Chickasaw County, Mississippi about 1845, when he is shown on the personal and land rolls of that county. (17) He is found living next to his father in 1850, in the western part of Chickasaw County, Mississippi. By that time John and Malinda have three children, all who were born in Mississippi. At the time of the 1850 Census, George Washington Chrestman was only 11 months old, so he was born in Mississippi in 1849, not 1843, as shown on his gravestone at Shipps Cemetery in the community of Anchor in Lafayette County, Mississippi. In 1860 they were living in Calhoun County, Mississippi, which was formed out of part of the old Chickasaw County. Their Post Office was shown as Sarepta, Mississippi, which is in the northeast corner of Calhoun County, Mississippi, not far from Bruce. They really didn't move. Only the name of the county changed. John B. Chrestman was a Circuit Clerk of Calhoun County in 1860 and 1862 (or it was the John B Chrestman, the son of Michael H. Chrestman.) (16) In 1860, John and Malinda have 5 more children in the household. In 1880, John is 56 years old. He and his wife and family have moved to Yalobusha County, Mississippi near Water Valley. They have added one more child to their family bringing the total to 10 |
