Leola's age varies so much on the censuses, it's hard to tell what's correct. Her obituary states she was born November 20, 1892. However, I think that is incorrect. On the 1900 census she was age 4. On the 1910 census she was age 12. In 1920, she was 22 and 1930, she was 42. I think 1898 is probably more accurate. The 1930 census asks what age you were when you first married and it states 18 for Leola. If she was 22 in 1920, that would be correct.
In 1930 Leola was enumerated as the wife of John T. Long, age 70, born in MS. Leroy and Barnie are as listed as sons of John T. and Leola, but that would be wrong, Leola was their mother, John T. Long was their stepfather.
In the Obituary for Leola, it states she was the widow of Lawrence Smith. |
