Elmer was known by his nickname "Bill".

Bill did some farming like his father, but his primary source of income for many years was working as a Technician for the Mississippi Soil Conservation Service. After he retired from that job, he started teaching guitar and music, which he had always enjoyed. All three of his children earned college degrees. Bill died in the hospital.
